An award-winning investigative reporter, John has worked primarily in web design and development in recent years. He earned degrees in journalism from Michigan State University and Columbia College Chicago and has held a variety of job titles, ranging from Web Manager and Information Architect to Freelance Writer and Data Editor. The common thread: John’s ability to unpack and tell complex stories with the use of emerging technologies.
For a number of years, John covered education and equity issues for Catalyst magazine in Chicago, winning—among other honors—two Education Writers Association awards. His work was especially prized for its novel approach to data gathering and analysis.
In web design and development, John has gravitated toward tasks that demand synergy between technical and storytelling skillsets. He has managed various websites for Northeastern University, the University of Chicago and a handful of nonprofits. He is especially proud of his data visualization work for India Spend, a Delhi-based publication that has prioritized data analysis in public affairs reporting.
