Ruona Meyer

Ruona Meyer is an Emmy-nominated, multimedia investigative journalist with 16 years’ experience, across print, radio, wire agency and digital outlets across Nigeria, South Africa, and the UK.

Meyer has worked with the BBC, the Financial Times of London, Reuters, BattaboxTV and NEXT Newspapers.

In April 2018, Ruona’s one-hour documentary Sweet Sweet Codeine, brought a first Emmy nomination for the BBC World Service and Nigeria.

She was also named Investigative Journalist of the Year in 2013, in Nigeria.

With postgraduate degrees in Journalism from Wits University, South Africa, and the University of Westminster, London, UK, Ruona is currently a PhD scholar at the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Technology at De Montfort University, Leicester, UK.

Her research interrogates the construct of counterpower within cross-border investigative journalism networks.
