Co-Founder and Director, Jabari Development Institute
Simonia is the Co-Founder and Director of Jabari Development Institute which designs sustainable growth and development solutions for community based organisations. She has over eight years civil society experience doing, monitoring and evaluation, research, advocacy and programme coordination at community and national level. She has worked for a number of social movements in South Africa advocating for access to health, justice and socio-economic development. Simonia hopes to merge her passion for citizen participation and state accountability with her studies in Economics and Development. In addition, Simonia is a part-time Coordinator of the Wits Justice Project.
Donor Liaison, Wits Journalism
Juliana Thornton (BA – Anthropology, University of Chicago; MPH – Public Health, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill) coordinates fundraising and development for the Department of Journalism and its associated projects and events. She has 15 years’ experience in the civil society and fundraising sectors, and has held management, research, M&E and fundraising positions with various civil society and development organisations working toward human rights and development in South Africa. In addition, Juliana was the Development Director for CCIJ and significantly contributed to the financial growth of this young organization.
