Mark Lee Hunter is a multiple award-winning journalist, scholar and author. Born and raised in the U.S., he has lived in France since 1982. In the 1980s and 1990s, he published an unauthorized biography of Minister of Culture Jack Lang (Les Jours les plus Lang), a case-cracking investigation of the scandalous Canson Affair (Le Destin de Suzanne) and an inside study of the extreme right National Front party (Un Américain au Front). In the following decades, he became known internationally as the lead author of Story-Based Inquiry: A Manual for Investigative Journalists (UNESCO 2009-11) and Power is Everywhere: How stakeholder-driven media build the future of watchdog news (Stakeholder Media Project, 2017). His latest book, co-written with Kevin Davis, is Community-Powered Journalism: A Manual for sustainability and growth in independent news (Anne-Marie and Gustav Ander Centre for Media Studies, 2020). His ten-module teaching guide to Story-Based Inquiry will be published by UNESCO in spring 2022. He co-founded the Future Media Management Programme at Stockholm School of Economics Riga, and is also a founding member of the Stakeholder Media Project, Arab Reporters for Investigative Journalism and the Global Investigative Journalism Network. Hunter has won two Investigative Reporters and Editors Awards (for international reporting and research on journalism), along with the Sigma Delta Chi Award for research on journalism, the H.L. Mencken Free Press Award for investigation of government abuses, first-place National Headliners and Clarion Awards for feature writing, and two EFMD Awards for case-writing on business issues. His articles were published in The New York Times Magazine, Washington Post, Le Monde Diplomatique, Harper’s, Cosmopolitan, Mother Jones, and many others. His documentary on France’s alcohol lobby, Liquorgate (Arte), was selected for the FIPA international festival. His peer-reviewed articles on investigative journalism and stakeholder-driven media appear in The California Management Review, Corporate Reputation Review, Journal of Business Ethics, Harvard Business Review, Columbia Journalism Review, Harvard International Journal of Press/Politics, and others.
