CCIJ Weekly Roundup: Grant proposal training and metaverse launch party announcement

We continued our monthly trainings with award-winning independent journalist Sonja Smith, who showed us the dos and don’ts for writing journalism grant applications. Thank you to everyone who joined and made this workshop a record-breaker for attendance! We’re also excited to announce our Metaverse Launch Party will be held on August 25. We hope to see you there!

CCIJ August Training: Story Proposals

Thank you to everyone who attended our recent monthly training session with award-winning independent journalist Sonja Smith and CCIJ’s Series Editor Yaffa Fredrick! Hosted on Thursday, August 5, the workshop explained how to write a winning grant proposal. Sonja has received two grants from the CCIJ for her two investigations, “Dying for a drop” and “Grape crop brings in millions, but farm workers live a harsh life.” One of her tips? Research the topic you want to report on extensively so you can demonstrate personal knowledge and interest in it!

Metaverse Launch Party

CCIJ is excited to announce our Metaverse Launch Party will be held on August 25, 6 p.m. Central Africa Time, 12 p.m.  U.S. Eastern Time. Developed by CCIJ’s Innovation Director Jon Lowenstein and designers Karen Eng and Lenara Verle, the metaverse is a collective virtual shared space that will reimagine how we engage with our community. In May, CCIJ became the first journalism organization to create a space to publish members’ work when it shared Lamin Jahateh and Jason Florio’s story about water access in The Gambia. We hope you will join us in our celebration!
